Cal Advances at Saint Mary's Invitational

MORAGA - Freshmen Claire Ilcinkas and Bojana Bobusicof the California women's tennis team advance after completing day one of the Saint Mary's Invitational yesterday in Moraga.

Bojana Bobusic, a freshman from Perth Australia, started out the day with a bye in the singles round of 32. Bobusic went on to defeat Erika Barnes of Santa Clara, 6-3, 6-0, in the singles round of 16. Bobusic will take on Aude Lambert of Saint Mary's later today in the quarterfinals of singles action.

In more singles play, Claire Ilcinkas, a freshman from Paris France, outlasted her opponent Carla Tamborini of Pacific, 6-2, 6-3, in the round of 16 singles. Ilcinkas also had a bye in the round of 32. Ilcinkas will face Pavia Mesterova of LMU in the quarterfinals later on today.

On the doubles court Ilcinkas and Bobusic teamed up to defeat Kristin Davenport and Fiorella Valez of the University of Nevada Reno, 8-3, in the round of 16. The duo then went on to outlast Erika Barnes and Casey Knutson of Santa Clara, 8-1, in the quarterfinals. Ilcinkas and Bobusic will take on Robin Guier and Ally Muller of the University of California Davis later today in the semifinals.

Day two of the Saint Mary's Invitational will take place today to conclude the tournament.
