Oct. 18, 2005
Several members of the UCLA women and men's cross country teams on Friday (Oct. 21) will run at the Titan Invitational on a campus course at CS Fullerton. The women's 5K will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the men's 8K at 5 p.m.
Most of UCLA's top runners will be training through the weekend, preparing for the two upcoming 2005 championship invitationals. On Saturday, Oct. 29 in Tucson, AZ at the Randolff Golf Course, the University of Arizona will host the 2005 Pac-10 Championships. Then, on Saturday, Nov. 12, Stanford will host the 2005 West Region Championships on the Cardinal campus golf course.
Both UCLA teams received votes this week in the national Top 30. In this week's national polls, there are five Pac-10 women's teams ranked - No. 2 Stanford, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 22 Oregon and No. 26 Washington, along with three conference men's squads - No. 4 Stanford, No. 7 Arizona and No. 24 Washington.
The Bruin women and men's squads competed against the nation's top teams and individuals at the Pre-NCAA Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute on Saturday (Oct. 15).
In the women's competition, junior Ashley Caldwell led the Bruins by placing eighth overall, running the 6000m course in a lifetime best 20:29. She led UCLA to a 14th-place team finish (410 points/out of 35 teams).
In the men's race, junior Austin Ramos finished 15th overall, running the 8000m course in 24:06. As a team, the Bruin men placed 13th (384 points/out of 33 teams).
The course at the Pre-NCAA Invite is a tuneup for the upcoming 2005 NCAA Championships, also hosted by Indiana State University on Nov. 21.
