Oct. 18, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - California senior goalkeeper Ashley Sulprizio has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 11-17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Gardnerville, Nev., native recorded six saves against No. 15 Stanford to help Cal post a 2-0 shutout of its Bay Area rival last week. Sulprizio has allowed only four goals in her 1,128 minutes played and her goals-against average of 0.319 ranks sixth in the nation and leads the Pac-10. Her 0.882 shots on goals save percentage also ties her for ninth in the national rankings.
Sulprizio was a 2004 Pac-10 all-academic honorable mention honoree and received Soccer Buzz and Soccer America player of the week honors Oct. 4-10, 2004, after scoring a goal off a corner kick in the final minutes of regulation against No. 10 Stanford to secure a 1-1 tie. She also recorded seven saves in the game.
California (3-0-0, 10-2-1), ranked No. 10 in this week's Soccer Buzz poll, travels to the Arizona schools this weekend as Conference play continues.
This is Sulprizio's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and California's 15th weekly honor all-time.
