Eylander Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 18, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington senior goalkeeper Chris Eylander has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 11 - 17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Eylander, from Sumner, Wash., made four saves and held both Stanford and No. 12 California scoreless last weekend in the Huskies' sweep of the Bay Area schools. The UW squad shutout a Cal team that scored 22 goals in 12 matches before Sunday, handing the Bears their first loss at home this season.
Eylander has posted three straight shutouts, including a 0-0 double overtime tie with San Diego State on Sun., Oct. 9. In addition, Washington has only allowed two goals through the first half of Conference play.
Eylander, who has been named to this week's National Team of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer, has six shutouts for the season and 17 in his career. He needs one more shutout to tie for third on Washington's all-time career list.
Washington (2-2-1, 8-3-1) will start the second half of Pac-10 matches this weekend, hosting California on Fri., Oct. 21 and Stanford on Sun., Oct. 23.
