UCLA Travels to the Stanford Intercollegiate
Oct. 20, 2005
The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team travels to the Bay Area for the annual Stanford Intercollegiate, scheduled for Oct. 21-23 at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto.
The Bruins, who were ranked No.1 to start the season, will be looking to improve on their fourth place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship last month in Franklin, TN.
'We have not played in a couple of weeks,' said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth, 'so we're looking forward to getting back into a tournament environment and the challenges that we'll face with a very strong field.'
Top-ranked and defending national champion Duke heads a tough field that includes eight teams ranked among the nation's Top 20 in the latest GolfWeek poll.
The Bruins' lineup features one senior, a junior, one sophomore and two true freshmen.
Junior All-American Hannah Jun will play in UCLA's No.1 position. Jun, ranked seventh nationally, tied for eighth at the Mason Rudolph event and leads the team with a stroke average of 73.5.
Freshman Ryann O'Toole, ranked 28th in the country, will play in the No.2 spot. O'Toole, who fired a two-under par 70 in her first collegiate tournament, tied for 16th in Tennessee last month.
Sophomore All-American Amie Cochran will play in the third spot. Cochran tied for 21st in the Bruins' first tournament and was ranked 34th nationally this week.
Freshman Jane Park, the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur champion, will play at No.4. After tying for 23rd at the Mason Rudolph Championship, she was ranked 11th in the nation.
Finally, senior All-American Susie Mathews will play in the fifth spot. Mathews, a three-time NGCA Scholar All-American, tied for 26th at last month's event.
Freshman Tiffany Joh also made the trip and will play as an individual.
'We're excited to be playing at Stanford this week,' said Forsyth. 'It is a great golf course and it's always a test. I feel that we have prepared well for the event.'
Following this weekend's event, the Bruins will travel to the Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
