TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 10 California tied No. 22 Arizona, 0-0, in double overtime Friday night at Murphey Stadium. The Golden Bears, who are 3-1-2 in overtime games this season, improved to 10-2-2 overall (3-0-1 Pac-10), while the Wildcats are now 8-4-3 (3-1-1).
Cal has shut out its last five opponents, posting a 4-0-1 mark during that stretch. The Bears entered the week with the fifth best goals-against average in the nation at 0.36. Arizona was the co-Pac-10 champion with UCLA in 2004.
Tonight against Arizona, Cal outshot Arizona, 21-7, including 4-2 in overtime, but couldn't find the back of the net. Wildcats goalkeeper McCall Smith recorded saves on all 10 of the Bears' shots on goal. Cal goalkeeper Ashley Sulprizio stopped all five of the Wildcats' shots on goal.
Senior Dania Cabello, junior Katie Ratican and sophomore Chioma Igwe led Cal with four shots each. Mallory Miller, who began the week leading the Pac-10 in points (34) and goals (15), paced the Wildcats with three shots.
The Bears conclude their road trip at Arizona State Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. ASU tied Stanford, 0-0, today.
