Tilly Wins 50 Free, Anchors Relay Wins in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - California junior Jonas Tilly won the 50-yard freestyle and anchored two winning relays as the Golden Bears won four out of the first six events on the first day of a tri-meet with Florida and host Texas on Friday morning.
The Bears opened the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:20.36. Joe Whittington led off for Cal followed by fellow sophomores William Copeland and Jernej Godec, while Tilly swam a split of 19.44 to clinch the victory. Tilly later won the 50 free in a time of 20.37, while Godec was third (20.69). Tilly, a product of Trelleborg, Sweden, closed the morning session by anchoring the winning 400-medley relay (3:16.94).
Cal senior Miguel Molina won the 200 individual medley (1:48.99) and sophomore Dominik Meichtry had Cal's best finish in the 500 free, taking second (2:48.39). Bears junior Daniel Lysaught was fifth in the 500 (4:29.94).
The meet continues later today at 5 p.m. CT. The final session begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT.
