NEWS AND NOTES

  • ARIZONA senior forward Mallory Miller is making her final collegiate season a memorable one ... After scoring both UA goals against CALIFORNIA on Sun., Oct. 23, Miller broke the program season record for shots taken (68) and career record for games started (75) ... She now owns every season and career record at Arizona, except for career games played, although she is just two shy of tying with three regular season matches left to play.

  • OREGON senior forward Nicole Garbin equaled the UO single-season record by scoring her ninth goal of the season against OREGON STATE on Fri., Oct. 21 ... Garbin is also on the verge of becoming the Ducks' career shots leader (164), needing just five to pass Chalise Baysa (1998-2001) for first place.

  • USC freshman forward Amy Rodriguez has helped the Women of Troy to a four-match unbeaten streak, scoring two goals over the weekend, including the game-winner against WASHINGTON STATE on Fri., Oct. 21.

  • OSU sophomore forward Whitney Goodell came into the game as a substitute against the Ducks, tallying two goals in less than three minutes to guide the Beavers to a 4-2 win ... With the scores, Goodell doubled both her season and career totals.

  • This week's schedule pits traditional rivals, Arizona and ARIZONA STATE in a Saturday matchup ... UCLA and California will meet up on Friday for a battle of the Conference unbeatens ... North vs. South will also feature USC and STANFORD ... Oregon and Oregon State will take on WASHINGTON and Washington State in Seattle and Pullman, respectively.

  • ARIZONA Wildcats (4-1-1, 9-4-3)
    Arizona picked up a 2-1 win over Stanford on Sun., Oct. 23, after taking 10th-ranked California to double overtime in what ended as a 0-0 scoreless tie ... Arizona, which is ranked as high as 18th in this week's Soccer Buzz poll, is 4-1-1, 9-4-3 on the year and currently in sole possession of third place in the Pac-10 ... Senior forward Mallory Miller led the UA attack this weekend, attempting three shots on goal against Cal, while scoring both Wildcat goals in the win over the Cardinal ... Miller broke the program season record for shots taken (68) and career record for games started (75) ... She now owns every season and career record at Arizona, except for career games played (she is two shy of tying) ... The Wildcats will face their traditional rival, Arizona State, in a Sat., Oct. 29 match in Tucson.

  • ARIZONA STATE Sun Devils (3-2-1, 8-6-3)
    Arizona State will look to rebound this weekend with a win, following its 1-0 loss to California on Sun., Oct. 23 and its 0-0 double overtime tie against Stanford on Fri., Oct. 21 ... The Sun Devils are now 3-2-1, 8-6-3 on the year ... Junior goalkeeper Kim Bingham registered five saves in the Stanford contest, the first scoreless match that ASU has recorded in its 10-year existence ... Bingham added three additional saves against Cal ... Senior forward Elizabeth Bogus and senior midfielder Manya Makoski combined for two-thirds of the Sun Devils' 21 shots, as each recorded seven against the Cardinal ... Arizona State will take on arch-rival, Arizona, on Sat., Oct. 29 in Tucson ... Last year, the Sun Devils claimed the Duel in the Desert with a 1-0 win.

  • CALIFORNIA Golden Bears (4-0-1, 11-2-2)
    California opened last weekend with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Arizona on Fri., Oct. 21 and followed that match up with a 1-0 win over Arizona State on Sun., Oct. 23 to improve to 4-0-1, 11-2-2 on the season ... The Bears, unbeaten in their last six matches, are ranked in all three major polls and as high as No. 10, according to the Soccer Buzz publication ... Sophomore defender Courtney Hooker assisted Cal in its two shutouts over the Arizona schools ... She was instrumental in holding the Pac-10's leading scorer, UA's Mallory Miller, to just three shots, while keeping ASU's Elizabeth Bogus to just one ... The Bears have 11 shutouts in 2005, including in the last six games ... The team has also yet to allow a goal in Pac-10 play ... California will host Pac-10 also-unbeaten and fourth-ranked UCLA on Fri., Oct. 28 and USC on Sun., Oct. 30.

  • OREGON Ducks (0-5-0, 8-6-1)
    Oregon dropped its fifth match in a row, losing to in-state rival, Oregon State, 4-2 on Fri., Oct. 21 ... The Ducks are now 0-5-0, 8-6-1 on the season ... Senior forward Nicole Garbin and senior midfielder Caitlin Gamble both scored in Friday's match ... Garbin equaled the Oregon single-season record by scoring her ninth goal of the season at OSU ... She is also on the verge of becoming the Ducks' career shots leader (164), needing just five to pass Chalise Baysa for first place ... Gamble, who has scored four goals in her last eight games, recorded her first career three-point game against the Beavers with a goal and an assist ... UO head coach Tara Erickson faces her alma mater and former head coach Lesle Gallimore in a Fri., Oct. 28 match ... The Ducks will also play Washington State on Sun., Oct. 30 in Pullman.

  • OREGON STATE Beavers (2-2-1, 9-5-1)
    Oregon State picked up its ninth overall win on the year with a 4-2 outing over in-state rival, Oregon, on Fri., Oct. 21 to improve to 2-2-1, 9-5-1 on the season ... Sophomore forwards Jodie Taylor and Whitney Goodell scored two goals apiece to lead the Beavers to their fourth win over the Ducks in the last five Civil Wars ... Goodell, who entered the match as a substitute, scored both her goals in less than three minutes and was credited with the game-winner ... Goodell doubled her season and career totals as she came into the game with two tallies on the season ... The Beavers also picked up four assists in the match, which ties for second in the Pac-10 season-high column ... OSU will head north to take on Washington State on Fri., Oct. 28 and Washington on Sun., Oct. 30.

  • STANFORD Cardinal (2-2-1, 8-5-2)
    Ranked this week at No. 17 by Soccer America and No. 27 by Soccer Buzz, Stanford picked up a 0-0 double overtime tie against Arizona State on Fri., Oct. 21 and was barely edged, 2-1, by Arizona on Sun., Oct. 23 ... The Cardinal are now 2-2-1, 8-5-2 on the season and sitting in a tie for sixth place in the Conference ... Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Holland registered eight saves and the first shutout of her collegiate career in the match against the Sun Devils ... Five Stanford players tallied two shots apiece, but none could find the back of the net ... Freshman midfielder/forward Kate Mannino scored the lone goal for the Cardinal in Sunday's match ... Holland collected an additional seven saves in goal, making her second start in as many matches ... Stanford will host USC on Fri., Oct. 28 and UCLA on Sun., Oct. 23 in its final regular-season homestand.

  • UCLA Bruins (4-0-1, 14-1-1)
    With a 4-0 victory over Washington on Fri., Oct. 21, coupled with a 0-0 double overtime tie against Washington State on Sun., Oct. 23, UCLA extended its 11-match unbeaten streak, improving to 4-0-1, 14-1-1 on the year ... The Bruins are ranked fourth in all three polls this week, as well as hold a tie for first place in the Pac-10 with California ... Four different players scored in the UW match, including Danesha Adams, Blake Zerboni, Iris Mora and Kara Lang ... Adams also assisted on Lang's final goal of the afternoon ... The tie with the Cougars marked the first for the Bruins all season, as they could not find the back of the net, despite owning a 27-3 shot advantage ... Sophomore goalkeeper Valerie Henderson was credited with the shutout, while she also tallied one save ... UCLA will take on Cal on Fri., Oct. 28 and Stanford on Sun., Oct. 30 in the Bay Area.

  • USC Trojans (3-1-1, 9-4-2)
    USC has picked the perfect time to get hot, having won five of its last seven matches, outscoring its opponents 11-2 in those defeats ... The Women of Troy picked up a 2-0 win over Washington State on Fri., Oct. 21 and followed that performance up with a 2-1 edging of Washington just two days later ... USC received votes in this week's Soccer Buzz poll ... Freshman forward Amy Rodriguez scored two goals over the weekend, including her second game-winning goal of the season in the WSU match ... Rodriguez notched another tally against UW, to lead the Trojans in scoring with six goals and 18 total points ... Junior midfielder Rosa Anna Tantillo scored the game-winner in Sunday's match, to give USC its third consecutive win with goals scored in the final six minutes of play ... The team has road matches this weekend, facing Stanford on Fri., Oct. 28 and California on Sun., Oct. 30.

  • WASHINGTON Huskies (0-6-0, 0-14-3)
    Washington lost to UCLA, 4-0, on Fri., Oct. 21 and was barely edged by USC, 2-1, just two days later ... Sophomore forward Dani Bridges scored the lone goal for UW on the weekend, taking the pass from freshman midfielder Sarah Dougherty ... Junior goalkeeper Kelsey Rasmussen registered six saves in back-to-back matches against the LA schools, bringing her season total to 80 which puts her in second place in the Conference ... Rasmussen also ranks second in saves per game with an average of 4.71 ... The Huskies will take on Oregon on Fri., Oct. 28, as well as Oregon State on Sun., Oct. 30 in Seattle.

  • WASHINGTON STATE Cougars (1-4-1, 8-7-2)
    Washington State dropped a 2-0 match against USC on Fri., Oct. 21, but rebounded, taking fourth-ranked UCLA into double overtime two days later, finishing with a 0-0 scoreless tie ... Senior goalkeeper Katie Hultin had a marvelous outing against the Bruins ... Hultin registered 10 saves as UCLA attempted 18 shots in the first 90 minutes of play ... She also notched four crucial stops in overtime to post her fourth shutout on the season, 18th in her career, tying her for first atop the Cougar career shutout list ... Senior midfielder Carmen Anderson, senior forward Haley Thompson-Miller and junior midfielder Sasha Baines each contributed one shot each for the Cougars against UCLA ... Next up for WSU will be a Fri., Oct. 28 contest against Oregon State, followed up with a Sun., Oct. 30 match with Oregon.
