Oct. 27, 2005
Tempe, Ariz. -
Senior offensive lineman Grayling Love has been named one of 16 finalists for the Draddy Trophy, awarded to the top scholar-athlete in the nation. Love has also been named a National Scholar-Athlete Award Winner, as selected by the National Football Foundation Awards Committee.
Love, a graduate student who earned his degree in business finance in May, will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship and will be honored at the 48th NFF Awards Dinner on December 6th in New York City. The recipient of the Draddy Trophy will also be named at the banquet. Love was selected as a finalist from 184 nominees, and is one of only eight Division I finalists and the only player from the Pacific-10 Conference. Finalists must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater, have outstanding football ability and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.
Last season, Love was the recipient of a post-graduate scholarship from the Valley of the Sun chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. The Sun Devils' starting center and team captain, Love was a First-Team All-Pac-10 All-Academic team selection in 2004, as well as an All-Pac-10 First-Team performer.
Established to honor former NFF Chairman Vincent dePaul Draddy, a Manhattan College quarterback who developed the Izod and Lacoste brands, the Draddy Trophy comes with a stunning 24-inch, 25-pound bronze trophy and increases the recipient's scholarship to a total of $25,000.
