Hooker Selected to Soccer America, Soccer Buzz National Teams of the Week

Oct. 27, 2005

BERKELEY, Calif. - California sophomore defender Courtney Hooker was named to Soccer America and Soccer Buzz's National Team of the Week after she shut down Arizona and Arizona State's top scorers last weekend.

Hooker helped Cal extend its shutout streak to six straight in Arizona. The Bears have yet to allow a goal during Pac-10 play following a 0-0 double overtime tie against No. 22 Arizona Oct. 21 and a 1-0 triumph over Arizona State Oct. 23.

Against Arizona, Hooker held the Pac-10's leading scorer, Mallory Miller, to three shots. Miller entered last weekend with 15 goals and 34 points. In the Arizona State game, Hooker was instrumental in the Bears containment of Elizabeth Bogus, who entered the week third in the Pac-10 in both goals (11) and points (28), to only one shot.

Hooker, a product of Woodland Hills, Calif., has played a big role in Cal allowing only five goals all season (one was on a penalty kick). The Bears rank second in the nation in goals-against average at 0.309.

No. 9 Cal (11-2-2) hosts No. 4 UCLA (14-1-1) Friday, Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Edwards Stadium. Both teams are tied for first in the conference at 4-0-1.
