Merrick and Johnson Advance to Stage 2 of PGA Tour Qualifying

Former UCLA All-Americans John Merrick and Travis Johnson advanced to Stage 2 of the PGA Tour's Qualifying School at different events this month.

Merrick qualified on Fri., Oct. 28 at San Juan Oaks in Hollister and Johnson qualified on Oct. 14 at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in Palm Springs.

Johnson, who was leading through three rounds at 12-under par, stumbled to a 77 in the final round, but still tied for third place. He posted rounds of 68-66-70-77--281 (-7).

Merrick, two-under par after 54 holes and below the projected cut line, fired a final round 65 (-7) to vault into the Top 20 and finish at nine-under par. He posted rounds of 71-70-73-65--279 (-9).

Both players will move on to Stage 2, scheduled for Nov. 9-12 and Nov. 16-19 at various venues around the country.
