Nov. 1, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Manya Makoski, a senior on the Arizona State University soccer team, was selected as the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Week for Oct. 25-31, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday. The honor is the first in Makoski's career and the ninth weekly honor all-time for ASU soccer.
Makoski, a native of Trumbull, Conn., scored both Sun Devil goals Saturday night, including the ninth game-winning score of her career, to lead ASU past the rival Wildcats, 2-1, in Tucson. With the win, the Sun Devils remained undefeated all-time in the series, increasing their record to 10-0-1 against UA.
Both of Makoski's goals, the seventh and eighth of her senior campaign, came on assists from Brittany Cooper. Makoski first found the back of the net in the 17th minute to give ASU a 1-0 halftime lead. She then tallied in the 70th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the visitors the victory.
The Sun Devils hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season as they face USC at 2 p.m. Friday before closing out the trip at No. 4 UCLA at 1 p.m. Sunday.
