Media Picks Stanford To Win 2005-06 Pac-10 Title

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- With two returning starters from last year's NCAA Tournament team, theStanford Cardinal has been tabbed as the team to beat in the 2005-06 Pac-10 Conference season,according to a poll of media members who cover Pac-10 women's basketball.
Stanford, which finished 32-3 overall and advanced to its second consecutive Elite Eight round of theNCAA Tournament last season, garnered 10 first-place votes in the preseason poll, while UCLA earnedtwo first-place votes and USC notched one. The Cardinal made their 18th straight NCAA Tournamentappearance last season. This is the fifth straight year that Stanford has been picked by the media asthe Conference preseason favorite.
Four returning All-Pac-10 players were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team - Nikki Blue ofUCLA, Brooke Smith and Candice Wiggins of Stanford and Emily Westerberg of Arizona State. UCLAguard Noelle Quinn, a Honorable Mention All-Conference selection who sat out the majority of lastyear due to injury, was also named to the team.
