Q & A with Cross Country's Ryan Freimuth
Nov. 2, 2005
Ryan Freimuth is in his third competitive season with the Cougar Cross Country team. He most recently posted a 16th place finish at the 2005 Pac-10 Cross Country Championships. Here he shares a few of his favorite things and experiences as a student athlete in Pullman.
Major: Accounting, with a minor in German.
Dream job: Making partner at a mid-sized public accounting firm.
What motivates you before a race: Convincing myself that I can beat an opponent before I actually go out there and do it.
Best humor on the team: Woody Favinger
Most proud moment as a runner: Placing 16th at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships (October 29). This was really significant because it's the first thing I've done in my college career that can outdo my high school accomplishments.
What makes cross country runners unique: We are self-motivated and actually enjoy running. We'll get upset if the trainers tell us not to run.
Favorite pro athlete: Drew Bledsoe
Favorite pro team: Seattle Seahawks
Favorite TV show: My favorite show of all time is Seinfeld, I also like Family Guy.
Favorite holiday: Thanksgiving, the food is good!
Favorite food: Applebee's baby back ribs.
Favorite color: Green
Big city or small town: Small town
Pre-race ritual: I eat two packets of honey 15 minutes before I run.
What's in your CD player right now: Classic rock and Dave Matthews Band.
Biggest challenge as a student athlete: Having enough energy to get everything done.
Best part about being a student athlete: Success is the greatest feeling in the world, knowing you can compete with some of the top college athletes in the country,
Goals for end of the season and next year: At the NCAA Regionals (Nov. 12 at Stanford), I want to keep my momentum from Pac-10s and go out there and compete hard. Next year, I'd like to make it to Nationals as a team.
What I love or hate most about Pullman: I hate the weather, it's so unpredictable.
What I like about the off season: Eating whatever I want.
Favorite movie: The Big Lebowski
To have fun in Pullman I: Go out to dinner. Sella's, Applebee's and Taco Del Mar are my favorites.
Favorite book: Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Best team prank: In the 'track house' (where he lives with seven cross country teammates), I've been woken up twice by guys coming in and throwing water on me.
Favorite place to run: Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, Wash.
Favorite quote/words of wisdom: 'You don't get to the top of the mountain by falling there.' I got that quote from Coach Sloan (Cougar Head Track and Field Coach).
