Tickets On Sale Monday For 2005 Pete Newell Challenge

Oakland, Calif. - Tickets will go on sale Monday morning for the 2005 Pete Newell Challenge Presented by TicketsNow, through all Ticketmaster outlets and at The Arena in Oakland box office.
The ninth-annual college basketball event is set for Wednesday, Dec. 21, at The Arena in Oakland. The Cal Golden Bears are back in the Pete Newell Challenge after a one-year absence, taking on Big East newcomer DePaul in the second game of the doubleheader. In the first game, which begins at 5:30 p.m., highly regarded Stanford will meet Princeton. This will be a rare West Coast appearance for both DePaul and Princeton, who will be participating in the Pete Newell Challenge for the first time.
Ticket prices range from $15 to $100.
Stanford, with three standout senior starters returning in two-time All-Pac-10 guard Chris Hernandez, high-scoring guard Dan Grunfeld (a team-leading 17.9 points per game before a knee injury ended his season) and forward Matt Haryasz, the leading returning rebounder in the Pac-10 (9.1 per game), is ranked 13th in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Cardinal (7-0) has never lost in the Pete Newell Challenge. Cal is 4-2 all-time in the event.
