Jessica Shu Advances to Final Round at ASU Invitational

TEMPE - On day two of the 11th annual ASU/Thunderbird Invitational, California's Jessica Shu defeated her opponents on the singles court and will face Rebecca Rankin of ASU today in the finals. The tournament concludes today, and will wrap up the fall season for the Bears.

Senior Jessica Shu, a native of San Francisco, defeated Debra Streifler of Michigan, 6-2 6-3 in the second round of singles action, and then went on to outlast ASU's Roxanne Clarke in the third round, 6-2, 7-6 (8). Shu will take on Rebecca Rankin of ASU today in finals.

In other singles action, No. 8-seeeded Marion Ravelojaona, a sophomore from Paris, France, fell to Rebecca Rankin of ASU in the second round, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5), in a tie breaker of the third set. Teammate Claire Ilcinkas, a freshman also from Paris, France, was outlasted in the second round by ASU's Roxanne Clarke, 6-7 (6), 6-0, 6-3.

On the doubles court, Ilcinkas and Ravelojaona fell in the first round to Simosa and Kilmova of Kansas State, 8-4, while Bojana Bobusic and Shu were also outlasted in the first round by ASU's Rankin and Leitch, 8-4.
