Amy Rodriguez Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
Nov. 8, 2005
Freshman forward Amy Rodriguez became the first Trojan women's soccer player since 2002 to be named Pac-10 Player of the Week after knocking in two game-winning goals for the Women of Troy to close out conference play in third place and help propel USC to the NCAA Tournament.
Her first game-winner came as the golden goal in the first overtime period against Arizona State on Nov. 4. Two days later, she knocked in the game-winner against then-No. 23 Arizona in the 88th minute of play -- USC's latest regulation score of the season. She now has a team-best nine goals this year, including four game-winners to jump into the all-time top-10 at USC for game-winning goals and single-season goals and points (25). She has either scored or assisted for the Trojans in the past six games.
The last Trojan to be named Pac-10 Player of the Week was goalkeeper Julie Henderson, who received the honor as a sophomore on Sept. 10, 2002.
The Women of Troy kick off the NCAA Tournament on Friday (Nov. 11) with a first-round game against Gonzaga at 5 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton. The NCAA second round match will be held Sunday (Nov. 13) at 1 p.m.
