Women Of Troy Receive No. 24 Ranking In AP Preseason Poll
Nov. 8, 2005
The USC women's basketball received another nod in the preseason polls with this week's No. 24 slot in the Associated Press Top 25 Women's Basketball Poll. It has been 10 years since the Women of Troy have been ranked in AP's preseason poll, and this year's ranking is a reflection of USC's impressive 2004-05 season that saw the Trojans fall to Michigan State in a tight second-round game in the NCAA Tournament.
With 10 players back from that 20-win team, the 2005-06 Trojan squad and second-yaer head coach Mark Trakh have received plenty of respect on the way into the season. The Associated Press ranking is one of several preseason poll appearances for the Women of Troy, including No. 22 in the USA Today/ESPN national poll and a selection as the No. 2 team in the Pacific-10 Conference by Pac-10 coaches. The AP preseason poll includes three Pac-10 schools, with Stanford the highest conference representative at No. 11, and Arizona State at No. 20. Duke is the AP's top-ranked team for 2005-06.
So far in 2005-06, USC has faced two exhibition opponents in its preseason tune-up. The Trojans downed Vanguard 76-62 first, and recently defeated Team Concept 82-55 to close out exhibition play. USC's first official competition of the year comes in Hawai'i at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic from Nov. 19-20, where the Trojans will face host Hawai'i and Eastern Illinois.
