Nov. 9, 2005
Stanford, Ca - The 2005-06 Stanford men's swim team, second place finishers at the NCAA Championship last season, turned in several excellent performances on Wednesday in a triple distance meet against the California Golden Bears at the Avery Aquatic Complex.
Hongzhe Sun won two events, the 100 yard backstroke (48.35), and the 200 backstroke (1:51.94). Both times met NCAA provisional qualifications. Andy Grant earned an NCAA provisional time in the 200 yard freestyle in winning the event in a time of 1:38.11.
There was no team scoring at this meet, rather individual winners by event category (back, free, fly, IM and breast).
This was the first of four home meets for the Cardinal this year. On Jan. 20, Stanford will host Arizona, and then Arizona State the following day. Then on Feb. 18, Stanford will host the Golden Bears.
The Cardinal will again be prime contenders this year to win its 25th consecutive Pacific-10 title and compete for the NCAA title which will be held this year in Atlanta, Ga (Mar. 23-25).
