Volleyball Signs Xavier's Paige Mittelstaedt to NLI
Nov. 16, 2005
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State head volleyball coach Braid Saindon announced the signing of outside hitter Paige Mittelstaedt from Xavier College Prep in Phoenix to a national letter of intent today.
The signing of Mittlestaedt adds another talented young player to an impressive collection of underclassmen. ASU loses only two seniors from this season's team, and will enter 2006 with only three seniors on the roster. Mittlestaedt's cousin Rachel is a sophomore setter on the team.
'We think Paige is the best high school player in Arizona, and we wanted to keep her playing here,' said Saindon. 'We always want to keep the homegrown talent here, and we have been able to do that recently with Rachel Mittelstaedt, Margie Giordano, and now Paige Mittelstaedt.'
Mittelstaedt was a member of two 5A state championship teams, including this season, when she led the Xavier Gators in kills. She started every match over her four year career at Xavier, earning Desert Valley Region Honorable Mention honors her freshman year. As a sophomore, she was named First Team All Desert Valley Region, was an Honorable Mention All-State performer, and made the Arizona Republic's All-Phoenix squad. Following her junior season at Xavier, she was named All-State, First Team All Desert Valley Region, and All Northwest Valley. This past season, her senior year, she helped lead the Gators to the State Championship while earning First Team All Desert Valley Region for the third straight year. She is also expected to be named to the All State team when they are announced.
'ASU is developing a tradition of attracting the top talent in Arizona,' added Saindon. 'Paige Mittelstaedt continues that tradition.'
