Nov. 18, 2005
BERKELEY - Cal women's swimming team won 12 of 14 events in the Bears' 167-91 defeat of visiting Oregon State Friday. The Bears (6-0 overall, 2-0 Pac-10) posted 31 season-best times in the meet held at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
'We raced like a Top 5 team today,' said Cal head coach Teri McKeever, who is in her 14th season with the Bears. 'It's the last competition before the Georgia Invitational, and a lot of things we've been working on in training situations were incorporated into competition.'
Junior Sherry Tsai notched lifetime bests in both the 100-yard butterfly (55.89) and 400 IM (4:22.51, NCAA B), which she swam back-to-back. Tsai's time in the 400 IM was good for first place.
Senior Helen Silver took first in the 100 back in 55.06 (NCAA B), which is the fastest time by a Cal swimmer in the event this season. Junior Annie Babicz had strong performances in the 100 breast (1st, 1:02.58, NCAA B) and both the 400 medley and 200 free relays. Cal placed first in both relays.
Junior Erin Reilly posted Cal's fastest time of the season in the 500 free, which she won in 4:50.98 (NCAA B). Sophomore Leann Toomey finished first in the 100 fly (55.27, NCAA B), which is the top time for Cal this season.
The Beavers fall to (0-5, 0-2).
