No. 3 Stanford Expands Comfortable Lead At Speedo Cup
Nov. 18, 2005
Long Beach, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford continued its dominance of the Speedo Cup on the second day of the event at the Belmont Pool. For the second consecutive day, Stanford swept the day's event picking up wins in seven races to add to the five the Cardinal won on Thursday. Stanford's performance Friday increased the two-day Cardinal point total to 1112.5 points, easily more than doubling its closest competitor in second-place Brigham Young (449).
'I thought we had another really strong performance today,' said Stanford head coach Lea Maurer. 'It was nice to win all of the events, but the thing I was most happy about was the depth of our performance. We had more people making the finals session.'
Brooke Bishop (100 back, 53.94), Laura Davis (400 IM, 4:28.07), Elizabeth Durot (200 free, 1:48.57), Dana Kirk (100 fly, 53.93) and Erica Liu (100 breast, 1:03.52) were all individual winners for the Cardinal. The Cardinal also won both the 200 medley relay (Bishop, Caroline Bruce, Kirk, Madeline Rovira) in 1:42.20 and the 800 free relay (Morgan Hentzen, Durot, Desiree Stahley, Bishop) in 7:22.55.
The Speedo Cup concludes with the third day of competition Saturday with prelims at 8:30 am, PT, and finals starting at 6:00 pm, PT.
