Stanford Scores Decisive Victory At Speedo Cup

Long Beach, Ca - For the third year in a row, the nationally-ranked Stanford men's swim team is champion of the Speedo Cup.

The Cardinal easily defeated 13 other teams to chalk up 1,819 points over the three day meet. Air Force finished second with 942.5 points followed by Brigham Young with 844.5 points.

Hongzhe Sun was named the male Most Outstanding Athlete of the meet. On Saturday, the final day of the meet at Belmont Plaza, Sun set a new Speedo Cup record in the 200 back whth an NCAA 'A' time of 1:42.82. On Thursday, Sun had an 'A' qualifying time in the 200 IM with his time of 1:46.08. A day later, Sun produced an 'A' qualifying time of 47.29 in the 100 back.

On Saturday, Stanford went 1-2-3 in the 200 back, 200 breast and 200 fly.
