A little Twin perspective:
We remember our first time coming to UCLA! It was for Jamie's first collegiate meet. We were so excited to watch, and all we can remember thinking was, 'Wouldn't it be awesome if we could be here one day just like Jamie and all the other UCLA girls?' We would come to all of the meets with our family to support the team, and we both would just admire every single one of them. During Jamie's second year at UCLA, we verbally committed to WANT to be Bruins and Miss Val happily approved. She then came up with the nickname 'THE CUBS,' because we could not be Bruins until we signed on the dotted line officially to become true UCLA BRUINS!!! We always knew we wanted to be UCLA Bruins.
People ask all the time how we exactly made the team ... it was a lot of hard work and balancing everything out. Getting here was not easy. There were many difficult times when we questioned ourselves on whether or not we could do this and be successful at making it here with pride. We could not put all our time and effort into just gymnastics. There had to be time for the most important thing, which is school. Academics were our number 1 priority, then gymnastics, and then time for a little fun. We both graduated high school a year early with a GPA of 4.0. That added a tremendous amount of pressure and attention to time-managing skills. We had classes in the morning and at night. Every day we had to push each other and tell ourselves and each other that this all was going to pay off in the long run, and now we are here.
The day we signed our letter of intent to become UCLA Bruins was the day we felt we achieved our most important goal in school and gymnastics. It was a big accomplishment for the two of us, and everyone in our family was very proud! We knew we had worked so hard, and all of the hard work and determination finally paid off!!!
When we came in to preseason, we were a little nervous and did not know what to expect! It took us some time to get used to everything and everyone, and it took everyone a lot of time to figure us out! All the girls would confuse our names, and get us mixed up. The fun part is that we would have them guess which twin is which, and most of the time they would say the opposite. We even sometimes played tricks on the girls and coaches. We really do love being twins.
We also love all of our teammates and everything about 'Bruin Gymnastics!' We realized that college gymnastics was no longer just about yourself but is all about the TEAM. We love representing UCLA and everything about our team. Also, it's so neat that we get to watch and support all the other athletic teams as well. We've been huge UCLA football fans forever. When we were little, we used to come to the games and teach Miss Val about football. It's comforting to know that as much support as we give them at their games, they will be at our meets to support us as well. It is just so awesome to be here, and our college experience so far does not compare to anything else! We love it! GO BRUINS!!!!!!
Meet the Bruins was our first UCLA gymnastics event, and it was so exciting!!!! It reminded us of all the times when we were sitting in the crowd wishing one day that we could be out on that floor performing like all the UCLA girls. It was so awesome to see all the little girls looking up to us and wanting to be just like everyone on the team. This was such an exciting feeling, and it makes us look forward to the season that much more. After doing Meet the Bruins, we both looked at each other and said: 'Wow we really cannot wait for the season to start!' We are so fired up for the season! Our team looks strong and ready to compete!!! January 7th at 6:00 P.M is our first home meet in Pauley Pavilion against the Utah Utes. We would love to have all of our fans here! Once again, GO BRUINS!!!!!!!
