LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Crystal McCutcheon scored 13 points and Long Beach State beat No. 24 Southern California 51-46 on Wednesday night.

Jeannie Saunders added 12 points and Meghan Griffith grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds for Long Beach State (1-2). The last time the 49ers scored fewer than 50 points and won was during the 1973-74 season when they beat UCLA 40-39.

Shay Murphy scored 14 points to lead USC (2-1).

McCutcheon's 3-pointer capped an 11-3 run that put the 49ers ahead for good, 47-43, with 54 seconds left. Long Beach State then held on with three key offensive rebounds in the final 13.5 seconds.

Griffith came up with the first of those rebounds. After she was fouled, she missed her second free throw and Jayme Connors grabbed the rebound and was fouled. The 49ers rebounded again when Connors missed her second free throw.

Both teams struggled offensively in a low-scoring first half that ended with the teams tied 17-all.
