Future Bruin Alicia Sacramone posted the second-highest scores on both vault and floor to qualify for the individual event finals on those two events at the World Gymnastics Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
Sacramone, who signed a letter-of-intent on Nov. 9 to compete at UCLA, averaged a 9.468 on vault, outscoring everyone but China's Cheng Fei (9.631). On floor, Sacramone's 9.5 was second only to reigning World champion Daiane Dos Santos of Brazil.
The U.S. team had three athletes earn seven spots in the event finals - Sacramone on vault and floor; Nastia Liukin on bars, beam and floor; and Chellsie Memmel on bars and beam. The U.S. will also have two athletes compete in the all-around finals, as Liukin and Memmel finished 1-2 in the all-around qualifying with scores of 37.424 and 37.412, respectively. Sacramone did not compete in the all-around.
The all-around finals take place on Nov. 25. The individual event finals begin on Nov. 26 with the vault and uneven bars and conclude on Nov. 27 with the balance beam and floor exercise. Sacramone will be the fourth competitor on both the vault and floor finals.
