No. 13 USC Sweeps No. 12 Cal, 3-0, At The Lyon Center

LOS ANGELES -- Senior Bibiana Candelas had a team-high 21 kills and a .467 performance (21-0-45) on Friday as the No. 13 USC Women of Troy defeated the No. 12 California Golden Bears, 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-26), in Pac-10 Conference action at the Lyon Center.
USC secures a finish no worse than fourth in conference play as the Women of Troy improve to 16-9 overall, 12-5 in the Pac-10. The Women of Troy are 12-3 in their last 15 matches.
Cal falls to 18-9 on the season and 10-7 in the Pac-10.
USC outhit Cal by a .331 to .128 margin as the Golden Bears hit .000 (12-12-49) in the second game.
In the first game, a key dual block by Candelas and freshman Kelli Tennant gave USC the 19-17 lead. Candelas later started a run of six straight points and another block from Venski and Tennant closed out the game.
Three kills by Venski provided the foundation for a streak of six straight in game two as USC took a commanding 10-4 lead and did not look back. At 26-16, Candelas provided USC's final four points for the 2-0 lead.
Candelas did it again to close out the match. With USC leading 20-19, she spearheaded a 7-0 run with five kills as the Women of Troy evened the season series at one apiece.
USC hosts No. 5 Stanford tomorrow in a 7 p.m. match. It will be the final regular season home match for seniors Candelas, Venski and setter Nena Siljegovic.
