Arizona State's Joona Puhakka Named Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE diver Joona Puhakka has been named Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Month for October, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Puhakka, a senior from Helsinki, Finland, swept the springboard events in meets at Hawaii and at UNLV. Against the Rainbow Warriors, Puhakka won the one-meter event with a score of 361.05, before taking the three-meter with a 387.00 mark. Versus the Rebels, he scored 359.25 to capture the one-meter victory. before completing the sweep with a score of 400.13 in the three-meter event.
A four-time NCAA diving champion, Puhakka has been named Pac-10 Diver of the Year for three consecutive years, after winning six Pac-10 Diving championships. He competed in the 2000 (Sydney) and 2004 (Athens) Olympics for Finland and earned a gold medal in the one-meter springboard at the 2004 European Championships in Madrid.
This is the first monthly honor for Puhakka and Arizona State's first Diver of the Month all-time.
