Bears Qualify for Day 1 Finals at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - California Golden Bears Jernej Godec and Daniel Lysaught reached the finals of the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, respectively, on Thursday, the first day of the Texas Invitational held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Godec, a sophomore, placed sixth in the 100 fly preliminary in a time of 47.92, while Lysaught, a junior, was eighth in the 500 free prelim in a time of 4:23.93 to reach the finals.

Also, former Bears Bart Kizierowski and Rolandas Gimbutis, swimming for the Cal Aquatics club, reached the final of the 50 freestyle. Kizierowski, Cal's current volunteer assistant coach, was third (19.99) and Gimbutis was eighth (20.23) in today's morning prelim.

The Texas Invitational reconvenes this evening at 6 p.m. CT for the finals of day one.
