Cal Alum Anna Temple Qualifies for Futures, Ladies European Tours
Dec. 1, 2005
BERKELEY, Calif. - Former Cal star Anna Temple has re-qualified for the Futures Tour and has earned full status on the Ladies European Tour.
Temple, who played for the Golden Bears from 2001-04 and earned all-region accolades during the 2003-04 season, has continued to develop her game at the professional level. Last month, she qualified to play in every event next year on the Futures Tour by finishing in 48th place at the Futures Qualifying School in Florida. Temple shot a 72-hole score of 296 (77-70-75-74).
After competing in Florida, Temple traveled to Malaga, Spain, where she earned the final exempt spot on the Ladies European Tour. She carded a six-over 152 in the pre-qualifying rounds on the La Cala North Course to advance into the qualifier.
Over the next four days, the Berkeley, Calif., product recorded a nine-over score of 300 and made the top-30 cut to earn full exemption for next season. However, Temple entered a playoff with seven other golfers who were tied at plus nine for the final spot.
On the par-five first playoff hole, Temple and her two playing partners hit their approach shots to within 10 feet and made putts for birdie. Only one of the four players behind Temple's group fired a birdie, so four players advanced to a second playoff hole.
The second hole was a par four and had a tough green to hit to. Temple was the first to hit into the green, but her ball landed one-yard shot of the green and ended up 25 yards short of the pin. She chipped in for a long birdie, while the other three competitors recorded pars. Temple won the playoff, earning her full card for all 17 European events next season.
