Stanford Set to Compete at Las Vegas Invitational
Dec. 1, 2005
Stanford wrestling (1-1) will travel to the 24th Annual Cliff Keen/Las Vegas Invitational this weekend for the two-day tournament. This Cardinal will face off against intense competition as more than 30 Division I schools, including eight ranked teams, will be in attendance. As well, nearly half of the nation's ranked wrestlers will be competing on Friday and Saturday, including Stanford sophomore Tanner Gardner (No. 11 at 125 pounds).
'This weekend will be our toughest test to date,' noted head coach Kerry McCoy. 'Two of the top-three teams in the country [No. 2 Illinois and No. 3 Michigan] will be there, as well as a lot of other top-ranked teams. Plus, seven of the Pac-10 schools, including Stanford, will be at this tournament. It's going to be a good chance for us to challenge ourselves and see where we match up against the nation's best.'
Competition will begin on Friday at 9 a.m., with semifinals at 10 a.m on Saturday and finals at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Wrestling Mall will offer a live webcast of the finals, begging at approximately 4:30 p.m. Complete information and updated brackets are available at the Official Tournament Website.
