UCLA Gymnasts Ranked No. 3 In Pre-Season Coaches Poll

Defending Pac-10 gymnastics champion UCLA was voted No. 3 in the 2006 pre-season coaches poll. The Bruins received three of 25 first-place votes to finish behind Georgia (15) and Utah (5). No. 4 Alabama received the other two votes.

Head coach Valorie Kondos Field returns three All-Americans from last year's squad - 2003 NCAA bars and beam champion and two-time Canadian Olympian Kate Richardson, 2005 NCAA all-around champion and 2000 U.S. Olympian Tasha Schwikert and 2005 beam All-American Jordan Schwikert. The Bruins add seven freshmen to the 2006 squad.

UCLA will face nine of the Top 20 teams in the polls this season, including the top two and four of the Top 10. The Bruins open at home against No. 2 Utah on Jan. 7 at 6 pm.

Other Top 25 teams on the home schedule are No. 13 Oregon State on Jan. 22, No. 18 Washington on Feb. 12, No. 14 Arizona State on Feb. 19 and No. 9 Stanford on Mar. 5.
