Quarterback Matt Leinart's touchdown to beat Notre Dame was named USC's greatest moment of 2005 at the first-ever LA Sports Awards, presented by the Los Angeles Sports Council. The results were determined by fan balloting on the Sports Council's web site, www.lasports.org.
The awards presentation, held on December 11 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, was emceed by Kings Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Miller and televised live on KCAL-9.
Leinart plunged across the goal line from the 1-yard line with :03 remaining as the Trojans won a thriller, 34-31, at ninth-ranked Notre Dame on October 15.
During the awards gala, the Top 10 overall moments of the year, as selected by a blue-ribbon media panel, also were revealed. The Trojans routing Oklahoma, 55-19, in the FedEx Orange Bowl to win their second consecutive national title was ranked as the #1 moment. Reggie Bush winning the Heisman Trophy was ranked #2 and the win over the Irish was #5.
