Hooker, Hamm, Eisenberg Earn Soccer Buzz All-West Region Honors

Dec. 22, 2005

BERKELEY, Calif. - California sophomore Courtney Hooker was named a Soccer Buzz first-team All-West Region selection after receiving third-team honors as a freshman. Bears senior Tracy Hamm earned second-team Soccer Buzz all-region honors, and senior Liz Eisenberg garnered third-team distinction.

Hooker, who has started all 42 games of her career on the Bears' backline, was an integral part of Cal's dominating defense in 2005. The Bears finished the season ranked seventh in the nation in goals-against average at 0.475 (school record) and eighth in shutout percentage at 0.64 (14-of-22 games). The 14 shutouts tied the 1988 Bears for the most in school history. This year, Cal also tied the 1987 and 1989 teams for the fewest goals allowed (11). In 1987 and 1989, Cal played five and four games, respectively, fewer than this season.

After earning second team All-Pac-10 recognition as a freshman, Hooker was picked to the first team this year. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native was invited to compete in next month's U.S. under-20 national team camp.

Hamm, a Moraga, Calif., product who began her Cal career as a forward, starred for the last two seasons on the Bears' backline. In addition to her stellar defensive play in 2005, she tallied eight points from two goals and four assists. Hamm received second-team All-Pac-10 accolades this year.

Eisenberg garnered second-team All-Pac-10 distinction, as well, after leading the Bears in points (26), goals (11) and game-winning goals (7) for the second consecutive year. The forward from San Rafael, Calif., posted five goals and two assists over the final six games of 2005 and finished her career with 51 points (22 goals and seven assists).
