Baseball Earns No. 38 Preseason Ranking

The Washington baseball team earned the No. 38 ranking in Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Fabulous 40 pre-season baseball poll, the first preseason ranking for the 2006 season.

Defending national champion Texas, 56-16 last season, earned the No. 1 preseason ranking. The Huskies were one of six Pac-10 teams to make the rankings, behind preseason No. 3 Oregon State, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 21 USC, No. 25 Stanford and No. 31 Arizona. California and UCLA also received votes.

The Huskies, under 14th-year head coach Ken Knutson, return to the practice field on January 17 and open the 2006 season Feb. 10 at New Mexico State.

The Collegiate Baseball poll is the oldest college baseball poll, having started in 1957.
