Pair of Former ASU Soccer Stars Invited to Team USA Camp

Dec. 29, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. - Two former members of the Arizona State University soccer program, Amy LePeilbet and Stacey Tullock, were recently invited to the US Women's National Team training camp and will compete for a place on the American roster as it prepares for the Four Nations Cup. The week of training will take place Jan. 3-9 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., before WNT Head Coach Greg Ryan selects his team.

Upon selection of the squad, the WNT will head to the Four Nations Cup in Guangzhou, China, and will play China, Norway and France in the event that runs Jan. 18-22. The Americans face Norway on Jan. 18, France on Jan. 20 and the tournament hosts on Jan. 22.

LePeilbet has been a part of recent US teams this year and earned a starting position in their final two matches of the season, a 0-0 tie with Australia and a 3-0 victory over rival Mexico. A defensive standout, LePeilbet helped the Americans keep its streak of 10 matches in a row in 2005 of not allowing a goal. In all, the Mexico match was the 10th career cap for LePeilbet. She started three of the four matches she played in 2005.

LePeilbet is one of the most decorated players in Arizona State history as she helped the Sun Devils to the second round of the NCAA tournament as a senior. A three-time First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, she did not miss a start in her four-years at ASU, playing in 74 career games. She also was a two-time Academic All-American and a NSCAA Second-Team All-American as a senior.

Tullock, a first-round pick and fifth-overall selection in the 2002 WUSA Draft by the Philadelphia Charge, will be looking for her first action with the WNT after coming close on several occasions. Most recently, Tullock was one of 27 players battling for a position on the 18-player roster for the 2004 Olympic team, but did not make the final cut. She does have international experience, however, competing on several of the younger national teams, including the U-21 team.

While at ASU, Tullock, the 1999 Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year, etched her name prominently in the record books as 50 goals, 16 game-winning strikes, 25 assists and 125 points rank as the best in a career. She also ranks highly on several season ledgers, including first with 17 goals in the 1999 season, seven game-winning scores in 2000 and 41 points in 1999. Her seven assists in both 1998 and 1999 also rank as the fourth-highest total in a season at ASU. She was the first Sun Devil to earn national honors for the program as she was selected an All-American by SoccerBuzz.com on four occasions and once each by Soccer American and the NSCAA.
