CONFERENCE WEEKLY NOTES

TURNER THORNE TO 200: ARIZONA STATE head coach Charli Turner Thorne needs just one more victory to reach the 200-win plateau, having amassed 199 career victories in 12 seasons at Northern Arizona and ASU ... The Sun Devils' next win will also be Turner Thorne's 160th career victory at the helm of the ASU program.

WILLIS TIED FOR FIRST: UCLA SR G Lisa Willis notched eight steals over the weekend to move into a tie for first place on the Pac-10 career charts with 309 steals ... Willis ties USC's Tammy Story (1989-92) atop the charts ... In other chart moves, Willis also jumped into third place on the Pac-10 career three-point field goals made list with 213.

TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA (5-7, 1-2): Arizona played in the comfy confines of McKale Center last week, but could not come away with a victory, dropping both games of its Washington series, 61-52, to Washington State on Thurs., Dec. 29 and 66-54 to Washington just two days later ... JR G Joy Hollingsworth had been in a slump as of late, but broke out last week to score 18 points on 58 percent shooting against the Cougars ... Hollingsworth also added four rebounds, an assist and a block ... In Saturday's game with the Huskies, she finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals ... FR G Whitney Fields posted her first career double-double on Saturday with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds ... Next up, the team will take on UCLA and USC on Fri., Jan. 6 and 8, respectively.

ARIZONA STATE (12-1, 3-0): On a hot streak, Arizona State kept the wins coming with a 64-51 over Washington on Thurs., Dec. 29, as well as a 72-47 rout of Washington State on Sat., Dec. 31 ... The Sun Devils have won nine straight and sit atop the Pac-10 Conference with a 3-0 record in league play, 12-1 overall ... The win streak is the longest for ASU in 10 years under head coach Charli Turner Thorne ... Arizona State scored 28 points off 29 Washington State turnovers on Saturday and outrebounded the Cougars 41-29, despite the efforts of Cougar star Kate Benz ... The Sun Devils are outscoring their opponents by a +15.9 margin, good enough to lead the league ... ASU also paces the Conference in field goal percentages (48.1), rebounding defense (29.1), rebounding margin (+7.8), assists (20.23) and turnover margin (+4.46) ... The team will next take to the road to face USC on Fri., Jan. 6, as well as UCLA on Sun., Jan. 8.

CALIFORNIA (11-3, 3-1): California equaled its win total from last year with a 73-68 defeat of USC on Sun., Jan. 1, after having defeated UCLA by a score of 65-58 on Fri., Dec. 30 at Haas Pavilion ... The Bears, 11-3 overall, 3-1 in Conference, swept the LA series for the first time since the 2000-01 season when Cal picked up two wins on the road ... The last time the Bears swept at home was in 1992-93 ... Head coach Joanne Boyle has her young team playing considerably well, having equaled the 1992-93 Bears for the best start since the 1983-84 team opened with a 12-2 mark ... FR F/C Devanei Hampton averaged 20.5 points on the weekend, while fellow teammate FR G Alexis Gray-Lawson led the team with 22 points against USC, hitting three of four from downtown ... Hampton ranks ninth in the league with a 15.1 ppg average, while also placing fourth in the rebounding category (7.3 rpg) ... FR F Ashley Walker had an outstanding series against UCLA and USC, averaging 11.5 points and 10 rebounds in two games ... Cal will take on Oregon on Thurs., Jan. 5 in Eugene, followed with a Sat., Jan. 7 contest with Oregon State ... The game with the Beavers will be televised on FSN.

OREGON (9-3, 0-2): Oregon picked up a 72-64 non-conference road victory over Colorado on Fri., Dec. 30 to snap a two-game losing streak and pick up some much-needed confidence heading into the bulk of Pac-10 play ... The Ducks are 9-3 overall, 0-2 in league action ... The team will play its next two games at home against California on Thurs., Jan. 5, followed up with a Sat., Jan. 7 contest with Stanford ... UO used its fifth different starting lineup of the season, but improved to 5-0 when SR G Kedzie Gunderson makes the starting five ... FR G Tamika Nurse scored a season-high 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting against the Buffaloes ... The Ducks never trailed in the game and held CU to just 31.9 percent shooting from the field, improving their season average to 33.3, good enough to rank first in the Conference.

OREGON STATE (6-4, 0-2): Oregon State dropped a heartbreaking 63-58 overtime loss to Cincinnati on Thurs., Dec. 29 to see its overall record to 6-4, 0-2 in the Pac-10 ... SR F Kim Butler recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds ... SO F Tiffany Ducker scored a career-high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field ... Butler and Ducker combined to hit 15-of-33 shots (45 percent) on the night, while the rest of the squad was just 8-of-35 (23 percent) ... Ducker has moved into first place in the Conference rankings in field goal percentage, having knocked down 31-of-48 shots for a 64.6 mark ... The Beavers have a Thurs., Jan. 5 date with Stanford at home in Corvallis, followed up with a Sat., Jan. 7 contest with California ... Oregon State has won five of its past eight games with the Bears, but have not defeated the Cardinal since the 2002-03 season ... OSU ranks third in the Conference with a 36.1 field goal percentage defense.

STANFORD (8-4, 3-1): 14th-ranked Stanford picked up two wins over the weekend to rebound from two straight losses, including a 77-69 defeat at the hands of No. 24 Boston College on Wed., Dec. 28 ... The Cardinal took care of both USC and UCLA by scores of 77-56 and 91-68, respectively ... SO G Candice Wiggins scored a season-high 26 points in Friday's action against USC, before besting that performance with a 30-point outing against the Bruins on Sunday ... Wiggins went 20-for-37 from the field and added another ten points on free throws in two games ... The Cardinal takes to the road for a Thurs., Jan. 5 contest with Oregon State, tip at 7 p.m., as well as a Sat., Jan. 7 game with Oregon ... Stanford has won seven of its last nine games with the Ducks, including a 76-45 win at Maples last season ... The Cardinal is tied for second in the Conference with a 3-1 record, but has amassed four losses through 12 games played, one more than the team lost the entire 2004-05 season.
UCLA (7-6, 2-2): UCLA could not pick up a win this weekend, losing to California, 65-58, on Fri., Dec. 30 and to 14th-ranked Stanford on Sun., Jan. 1, 91-68 ... The Bruins are 7-6 overall, 2-2 in the Pac-10 ... SR G Lisa Willis led the team in scoring in both games with 17 versus Cal and 20 versus Stanford ... She also led the team in rebounding and steals at Cal, with eight and six, respectively ... Willis, with eight steals on the weekend, moved into a tie for first place on the Pac-10 charts for career steals with 309 ... Willis continues to be a renaissance woman for the Bruins, successful on both ends of the court and ranking in the Top-10 in all of the following Pac-10 categories: scoring (1st, 20.0), field goal percentage (7th, 50.5), steals (1st, 4.00), 3-point field goal percentage (9th, 36.0), 3-point field goals made (6th, 2.08), assist/turnover ratio (10th, 1.24) and minutes played (8th, 33.62) ... The Bruins have a home contest with Arizona on Fri., Jan. 6, as well as a Sun., Jan. 8 game with ninth-ranked Arizona State.

USC (8-5, 2-2): USC dropped both of its games in the Bay Area this past weekend, losing 77-56 to 14th-ranked Stanford on Fri., Dec. 30, followed up with a 73-68 edging by California on Sun., Jan. 1 ... The Women of Troy sit at 8-5 on the season, 2-2 in Conference play ... SO G Camille LeNoir scored a career-high 24 points on 7-of-17 shooting against the Bears on Sunday ... JR F Shay Murphy added 16 points and seven rebounds ... LeNoir was also the Trojan's leading scorer against the Cardinal, notching 16 points ... USC paces the Pac-10 in steals, but was held well under its season average, only notching 13 all weekend, including seven against Stanford ... The Women of Troy have a Fri., Jan. 6 contest with the ninth-ranked Sun Devils, followed with a Sun., Jan. 8 game against Arizona ... The matchup with the Wildcats will be televised on FSN.

WASHINGTON (10-3, 3-1): Washington split its road series with the Arizona schools, picking up a 66-54 victory over the Wildcats on Sat., Dec. 31, after dropping a 64-51 decision over the tenth-ranked Sun Devils on Thurs., Dec. 29 ... The Huskies, having improved to 10-3 overall, 3-1 in the Conference, are tied for second place in the Pac-10 ... The win over Arizona snapped a three-game road losing streak for UW, which hadn't won on the road since opening the season with two wins over Alabama and Florida State ... JR F Breanne Watson scored a season-high 13 points against UA, while SO F Andrea Plouffe led all Husky scorers with 14 on the afternoon ... Washington's leading scorer, JR G Cameo Hicks was held to just a 10 point per game average over the weekend, well under her 16.6 ppg mark up until that game ... The Huskies will take on Washington State on Sat., Jan. 7 in Pullman ... The game will be televised by FSN NW.

WASHINGTON STATE (6-6, 0-4): Washington State took to the road for its first Conference play away from the confines of Beasley Coliseum, dropping two decisions to Arizona, 61-52, on Thurs., Dec. 29, and No. 11/10 Arizona State, 72-47, on Sat., Dec. 31 ... The Cougars are now 6-6 overall, 0-4 in the Pac-10 ... SR F Keisha Moore had a breakout weekend, notching her first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against the Wildcats ... In Saturday's action with ASU, Moore had 20 points and eight boards, while going 6-for-6 from the line ... Prior to the trip to the desert, Moore was averaging 8.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg ... She also ranks eighth in the Conference in free throw percentage, having connected on 32 of 41 shots for a 78 percent average ... The team as a whole ranks third in the league in free throw percentage (69.8) ... Next up, WSU will take on Eastern Washington in non-conference action on Tues., Jan. 3, as well as facing traditional rival, Washington, on Sat., Jan. 7.
