Jan. 6, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- USC junior right-hander Ian Kennedy has been named to the 2006 Baseball America Preseason All-America first team. Kennedy was named as a first team All-America selection last month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

He went 12-3 last season with a 2.54 ERA, recording 158 strikeouts in 117 innings against just 38 walks and was a 2005 All-America first team selection, as well as the Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Year. Kennedy led USC to its fifth NCAA Super Regional in seven years and also pitched with the U.S. National Team for the second consecutive summer.

USC begins its 2006 campaign on Friday (Feb. 3) at Long Beach State with a 6:30 p.m. game at Blair Field in Long Beach.
