In Jensen's First Meet of the Season He Wins 500y Free and 1000y Free

Junior Larsen Jensen started his season out with a bang, winning the 500y free and 1000y free helping the USC men's swimming team defeat Texas A&M and UC Santa Barbara at McDonald's Swim Stadium on Saturday (Jan. 7). On the women's side Junior Kalyn Keller also won the 500y free (4:50.86) and 1000y free. Her 10:00.61in the 1000y is a season best for the Trojans, a time that was almost four seconds faster then the next closest finisher. The Women of Troy defeated UC Santa Barbara 225 to 65 but fell to Texas 158.5 to 141.5.
Helping to lead the Trojans was Freshman Rebecca Soni and Senior Blythe Hartley. Soni continued her success by winning the 100y breaststroke (1:01.38) and 200y breaststroke (2:12.33) while Hartley took the 1 meter (283.57) and 3 meter (267.00) with ease.
Other Women of Troy who clinched wins for USC was junior Cait Connealy in the 200y free with a time of 1:50.53, her fastest of the season, and sophomore Emily Goetsch in the 200y fly with a time of 2:01.98.
The men were victorious in both the 200y medley relay (1:30) and the 400y free relay (3:02.71). Also contributing to the men's victories was seniors Ous Mellouli and Tyler Panos. Mellouli posted USC's second fastest time of the season in the 100y free with a time of 45.13 while Panos won the 200y free in 1:40.46.
Junior Viktor Bodrogi posted wins in the 100y back (49.16) and 200y back (1:48.39) while classmates Mihaly Flaskay won the 100y breaststroke in time of 55:45 and Sam Masson won the 100y fly (49.40). Freshman Vanni Mangoni brought home the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.62.
The Trojans return to action on Jan. 14 to take on Cal State Bakersfield and Pacific at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif. at 1:00 p.m.
