Cardinal Opens Season Ranked No. 14; Bruch, Corkery Also Ranked

Stanford, which enters the 2006 campaign ranked No. 14 in the nation, will take eight players to compete in the Sherwood Cup, Friday-Monday at the Sherwood Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. The tournament includes 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams from six of the top-20 teams in the nation.
Along with Stanford, the tournament includes players from No. 5 UCLA, No. 7 Baylor, No. 9 Pepperdine,, No. 11 Florida State and No. 20 USC.
Both Bruch and Corkery were ranked in the ITA pre-season singles rankings while Stanford's top doubles team of Corkery and Pade were also ranked among the nation's elite.
Bruch, who won 10 of 12 matches during the fall and reached the semifinals of the All-American Championships and the quarterfinals of the National Indoors, was ranked No. 4 in the ITA poll. Corkery was 11-2 in the fall and was a semifinalist at the National Indoors, was ranked No. 21.
Corkery and Pade, who advanced to the semifinals at the All-American Championships, were ranked No. 5.
Stanford begins the 2006 dual match season January 26 at the Taube Tennis Stadium against Hawaii.
