Bruch, Pade Advance to Third Round of Sherwood Cup

Freshman Matt Bruch and junior James Pade each won two matches in today's Sherwood Collegiate Cup to advance to tomorrow's third round. Junior James Wan won his opening round match, but lost in the second round. The tournament continues through Monday at the Sherwood Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
Bruch, who is ranked fourth in the nation, won both his matches in straight sets. He beat USC's Nathan Stadler 6-2, 6-2 in the opening round, then came back later in the day to defeat Vladimir Portnov of Baylor, 7-5, 6-4. Pade began the day with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over John Reckewey of Baylor, then beat Degan Cvegkovic of USC in the second round, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Wan was the only other Cardinal to win a first round match today, beating Garrett Snyder of USC, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. He was then defeated in the second round by Lars Poerschke of Baylor, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
