No. 14 Gymnasts Defeat Boise State, 193.150-189.95, As Freshman Nicole Harris Wins All-Around

Freshman sensation Nicole Harris (Long Beach, NY) won the all-around competition with a score of 39.05 which helped No. 14 Arizona State University defeat unranked Boise State University, 193.150-189.95, at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho Friday. It was the season opener for both teams (ASU 1-0 and Boise State 0-1).
Harris won three events in addition to the all-around title in her first collegiate meet, including the uneven parallel bars (9.775), the balance beam (9.875) and the floor exercise (9.75).
ASU opened the meet on the uneven parallel bars and scored 47.7 as a team. Freshman Nicole Harris led the way with a first-place finish (9.775) while senior co-captain Lauren Powell posted a 9.725, good for second. The Sun Devils were forced to count two poor scores as junior April Boone scored 9.55 (6th), freshman Tia Orlando turned in a 9.35 (9th), senior co-captain Ashley Kelly posted a 9.3 (10th) and junior Cassandra Jusino finished with a 9.2 (11th). Boise State scored 47.85 on bars led by Taylor Jacob's 9.675.
Boise State began the meet on vault and scored a 48.950, led by Katie Dinsmore's 9.875. She finished first on the discipline, followed by teammates Amber Neros (9.825) and Kea Cuaresma (9.,25). For ASU, Powell was fourth (9.8) and Kelly fifth (9.775). Also placing for ASU was Orlando (7th, 9.725), Boone (8th, 9.7), Harris (10th, 9.65) and Jusino (11th, 9.275). The Sun Devils scored 48.65 on vault their best event score of the meet.
At the halfway point, Boise State led ASU, 96.8-96.35.
On the third rotation, floor exercise, Harris led the Sun Devils with a 9.75 while Kelly posted a 9.7. As a team, ASU scored 48.0. Boise State scored 45.275, its worst event performance of the evening.
ASU finished the meet with a solid beam score of 48.8. Harris and Kelly tied fir first with identical 9.75's. Bronco Lindsay Ward scored a team-best 9.85 on balance beam and placed second. Boise's team score was 47.875 on beam.
