Washington Men's Swimming Competes At Dallas Morning News Swimming And Diving Classic
Jan. 13, 2006
DALLAS- The Washington Men's swimming team wrapped up competition in day one of the Dallas Morning News Swimming and Diving Classic on Friday evening at the Perkins Natatorium on the SMU campus. In a meet that fields No. 7 Florida, No. 14 Florida St., No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 16 Northwestern and host SMU, who received votes for a top-25 position in the most recent rankings, the Huskies were able to stay in the hunt heading into day two despite forfeiting 10 points in the one-meter dive because Washington does not sponsor a diving program.
Bruno Barbic helped keep the Huskies afloat, finishing with a Husky-best second place finish in the 50 freestyle. Barbic's time of 20.80 earned Washington 13 points in the event.
Taylor Brugh and Pat Penoyer also had solid performances on the evening, finishing in fourth place to earn the Huskies 11 points in the 100 backstroke (51.70) and the 100 breaststroke (56.62), respectively.
Competition continues tomorrow in the final day of the six team meet at 7:30 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the dual meet and Classic through livestats at www.smumustangs.com.
