Matias clinches singles title, Nelson,Magnani take doubles title at National Collegiate Tennis Classic

Junior Diane Matias won four matches in a row to win the National Collegiate Tennis Classic Championship while teammates Lindsey Nelson and Luana Magnani took the doubles title. The National Collegiate Tennis Classic is said to be the 'Wimbledon of College Tennis' and was held at Indian Wells, Calif.Matias upset No.2 seed Alexis Prousis of Northwestern 6-1, 6-0. She went on to defeat fellow Trojan Luana Magnani in the semifinals 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 before going on to take the tournament after upsetting Whitney Deason of Stanford 6-0, 7-5.
Nelson and Magnani overcame Marovic/Strohm of Texas at Austin 8-5 in the quarterfinals. The pair went on to beat Benik/Gordon of Florida 8-4 in the semifinals before clinching the tournament title by conquering Prousis/Gryre of Northwestern 8-4.
The Women of Troy also had members competing at the Freeman Memorial in Las Vegas.
Senior Carine Vermeulen fell to Tara Iyer of Duke 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Junior Anca Anastaisu advanced to the semifinals before falling to Samantha Orlin of Tennessee 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play two pairs of Trojans advanced to the semifinals on Saturday. Anastasiu and Judy DeVera fell to Barnes/Yelsey of Stanford by default. Freshman Amanda Fink and Vermeulen fell to Pooler/Clarke of ASU, 8-2.
