Eshaya Murphy Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Jan. 16, 2006
USC junior guard Eshaya Murphy has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week after helping lead the Women of Troy to two Pac-10 wins on the road, including a victory over No. 25 Washington that ended the Huskies' 12-game home win streak. Behind Murphy's team-high scoring and rebounding, USC has stretched its win streak to a season-best four games.
Murphy has now scored in double figures for 11 straight games now, as USC picked up its first two road wins in Pac-10 play. Murphy hit four 3-pointers in both games and picked up her first double-double in an 81-60 win over Washington State on Jan. 12 with 18 points and 10 rebounds. On Jan. 14, in a tight 64-61 win over No. 25 Washington - USC's second win over a ranked opponent in two weeks - Murphy led all scorers again with 19 points. She had 13 points, eight rebounds and six steals for USC in the first half. She finished the game with team-highs in rebounds (8), steals (7) and assists (5). Murphy leads the Women of Troy in scoring, rebounding, steals and 3-pointers made this season.
This is Murphy's second career Pac-10 Player of the Week award. She was the only Trojan to earn the honor last season, having won on Jan. 17, 2005.
USC (12-5, 6-2) next faces UCLA at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the Sports Arena.
