Sheridan Wins Mexican Amateur

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Sophia Sheridan won the 2005 Mexican Amateur Jan. 9-12 at the Los Encinos Golf Course in Mexico City. Sheridan finished the 72-hole tournament at four-over 292, which was six shots ahead of Texas' Devan Andersen (298).

Sheridan posted rounds of 72, 71, 78 and 71 to win the tournament on the par-72, 6,290-yard course. Diana Cantu placed third at 298, USC's Tanya Dergal took fourth at 301 and Liliana Ivarez (Tulane), Mariana Villarreal and Violeta Retamoza (Tennessee) tied for fifth at 307.

Last season, Sheridan claimed the 2005 NCAA West Regional title and the 104th Women's Western Amateur.

Cal returns to action Feb. 13-16 at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.
