California's Sam Helvie Named Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA diver Sam Helvie has been named Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Month for December, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Helvie, a freshman from Bakersfield, Calif., won the platform event at the Texas Invitational. Helvie scored 282.85, and became the first Golden Bear diver to win a platform event at an invitational.
Helvie competed with the Kerns River Divers Club in Bakersfield, placing fourth on the one-meter springboard (583.40) at the 2005 Senior Zone D regional final. He placed third on the one-meter (467.750) and on the three-meter (455.500) springboards at the 2005 U.S. Summer Junior Region 10 Championships.
This is the first monthly honor for Helvie and California's first Diver of the Month all-time.
