Stanford, Ca - The second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team scored victories in seven events including a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 free to record a 127-115 victory over fifth-ranked Arizona in a Pac-10 meet on Friday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Michael McLean recorded his best time of the season in the 500 free by nearly nine seconds in leading the Stanford sweep with a time of 4:23.15 (NCAA 'B' qualifying standard). Shaun Phillips finished second (4:26.66) while Andy Grant was third (4:27.77).

In addition to McLean's win in the 500 free, Stanford swimmers recorded wins in the 200 free (Andy Grant, 1:35.26), the 1000 free (Shaun Phillips, 9:12.06); the 200 back (Hongzhe Sun, 1:43.28), the 200 fly (Mark Stephens, 1:47.78, NCAA 'B' qualifying standard), the 200 IM (Tobias Oriwol, 1:46.62, NCAA 'B' qualifying standard); and in one meter diving (Dwight Dumais, 209.10 points, NCAA 'A' standard).

Saturday at Noon at the Avery Aquatic Center, the Cardinal will host No. 23 Arizona State. With 13 letter winners and a highly touted group of newcomers, Arizona State is aiming to finish high in the standings at this year's NCAA Championship. Last season, the Sun Devils finished 20th while only scoring in diving competition at the NCAA's. Leading the way is senior diver Joona Puhakka of Finland. Puhakka claimed the one-meter springboard national title and defended his three-meter springboard championship sweeping the springboard events in 2005. In doing so, Puhakka became the first male student-athlete to win two individual national championships in the same season. Puhakka was the 2005 Pac-10 and NCAA Diver of the Year. Puhakka is a two-time Olympian (2000, 2004) for Finland.
