Jan. 20, 2006

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State women's volleyball awards for the 2005 season were handed out at the team's banquet Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Fitness Café.

Second-year Head Coach Brian Heffernan announced that freshman libero Jalen Pendon received the Most Valuable Player award. The Strength and Conditioning award went to junior April Lott. Kelly Rosin, a junior, and Maureen Perez, a sophomore, received the Coaches Awards. Freshman Brittany Johnson earned the Most Improved Award, and senior Gwen Davis won the Scholar-Athlete award.

The Cougar volleyball team raffled a quilt to support Drew Chimento and his family, displaced Louisianans who lost their home and possessions during Hurricane Katrina. Drew is a ten-year old recently diagnosed with Leukemia and the Cougar volleyball team raised $2,523 through the quilt raffle to defer the costs of Drew's medical treatment.
