Arizona's Aubrey Taylor NamedPac-10 Gymnast of the Week
ARIZONA junior Aubrey Taylor has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for January 24-30, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Taylor, a 5'-2' junior from Burlington, Ontario, captured her first career all-around title to help Arizona to its season-best score of 195.875 in a win over California on Jan. 27. Taylor, who competed in the all-around for the fourth time this season, after not competing on vault in 2005, set new season-highs in all four events, and earned her highest all-around score (39.175) since February 20, 2004. For the second consecutive week, Taylor turned in a near-flawless routine on the uneven parallel bars, tying her career-best mark of 9.900 to claim her second title in as many weeks.
Taylor placed third on the balance beam, scoring a 9.750 to help the Wildcats to a season-high 48.725. Taylor also added a season-best 9.725 on the vault. Taylor has improved her all-around total in each of the last three meets, and has broken 39.000 in the last two.
The Wildcats will remain at home next week as they take on Washington, Fri., Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in McKale Center.
